Paneltex, a truck body builder is opening a new factory after securing the largest contract in its history. Moreover, the Hull-based truck body manufacturing company will create 240 new jobs at its new factory.
Agreement with Volta
Paneltex has signed an agreement with electric car company ‘Volta’. It will supply the cargo boxes for the truck manufacturing company. In order to meet this increased demand Paneltex has decided to have a huge new facility at Newport.
“It is an exciting development for Paneltex. We will be supplying to automotive standards, which is quite a high bar, and we will be the first doing it at scale in Europe, which could be quite a game-changer if we look five years down the line.” Paneltex Managing Director Chris Berridge said in a statement.
240 new jobs
Furthermore, the company is expecting to start operations at the new facility in 2023. Hence, the Paneltex will add 240 new roles once the new facility is fully operational. Although the company has announced the number of roles they intend to add but did not share any further details regarding the nature of the jobs.
The Volta Zero is the world’s first purpose-built full-electric 16-tonne vehicle to move urban logistics. Significantly, the company has already secured thousands of orders and Paneltex will ship the bodies. “Announcing our partnership with Paneltex for the supply of cargo boxes is the latest in a long line of agreements with world-class industry-expert suppliers that will support us in our mission to get the full-electric Volta Zero to market as quickly as possible and start dealing with the societal issues of climate change, air quality and safety that the vehicle is designed to address.” Ian Collins, chief product officer at Volta Trucks said in a statement.
