MSI is planning to invest $61.6 million to open a new distribution facility in Suffolk. Moreover, the California based company’s new distribution facility will also create 80 new jobs in Virginia.

Virginia secured the investment

M S International Inc. (MSI) is a California-based flooring, countertop, wall tile and hardscaping products supplier. Governor Glenn Youngkin announced last week that MSI will build this new distribution facility. Moreover, the new facility will comprise 548,000-square-foot facility located at 2821 Holland Road. Furthermore, the governor stated that Virginia competed with Georgia, New Jersey and South Carolina to secure this project. However, they had to approve $225,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to help with the project.

“Virginia is one of North America’s premier supply chain destinations, and we are excited to welcome M S International’s East Coast distribution facility to the commonwealth. MSI will benefit from Suffolk’s prime location and proximity to our world-class port facilities, and we look forward to their success in the Hampton Roads region.” Gov. Glenn Youngkin said in a statement.

Employment opportunities

MSI started back in 1970 in California and imports more than 70,000 containers each year from 37 countries. The company has more than 40 showrooms and distribution centers across the United States and Canada. Moreover, the company is employing more than 3,000 employees across the country. In addition, MSI has a workforce of 60 employees in Virginia. The establishment of this new distribution center in Suffolk will bring 80 new jobs in Virginia. This will take Virginia’s total employee strength to around 140. MSI is eligible to receive benefits from the Port of Virginia Economic and Infrastructure Development Zone Grant Program. Importantly, VEDP’s Virginia Jobs Investment Program will provide funding and services to support employee training.

“MSI is very excited with this huge expansion of our distribution footprint in Virginia. This new hub distribution center will dramatically improve our long-term distribution capabilities across the mid-Atlantic and Midwest. In addition, we are very impressed with the Port of Virginia and its continued investments to ensure a smooth flow of goods.” MSI President Rup Shah said in a statement.
