Walmart announced its plans of building a fulfillment center in Olive Branch. The new fulfillment center will approximately add 250 full-time jobs in the vicinity.

Million Square Feet Facility

Hundreds of new jobs are coming to Mid-South as Walmart has announced to build a massive fulfillment center on Marina Drive in Olive Branch. The new facility will be more than 1,000,000 square feet and Walmart is planning to open in spring of 2022. Moreover, Walmart will use this facility to ship products directly to the customers. The new building will have a two entrances. One is located at industrial area in Marine Drive. Whereas the other is at Stateline Road to Alexander Road to back up to neighborhoods.

Employment Opportunities

The project will create 250 full-time jobs in the DeSoto County area, which is part of the Memphis, Tennessee, metropolitan area. “Hundreds of employees from our area teaming with Walmart to successfully operate this new fulfillment center speaks volumes about Olive Branch’s workforce potential and amenities”. Mayor Ken Adams added to his statement.

Not only does the local economy benefit, but the supply chain of the United States is strengthened by this partnership”. Mayor Ken Adams said in his statement last month.

Potential Traffic Challenge

People living in the neighborhood have mixed feeling about the new fulfillment center. They are excited about the jobs which the project is bringing to the area. However, they are also worried about the traffic it will bring. The city said about sixty trucks a day will use the facility. However, heavy traffic will not operate during rush hour. Moreover, they are planning for add an additional lane to help with truck traffic.
