Apex Mills to acquire HanesBrands Inc. facility in Virginia

Apex Mills has announced to acquire the former HanesBrands facility and its equipment in Patrick County. Moreover, the move will retain 96 existing jobs along with creation of 44 new jobs. In addition, the Virginia’s governor office confirmed that Apex Mills will invest $3.1 million for the project. Previously, HenesBrands announced in 2021 that it is planning to close its plant in Patrick County.

Retention and creation of jobs

Apex Mills specializes in manufacturing and supplying wrap knit fabric to industrial and technical application. Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that the company will fulfill contracts for the Hanes basic apparel brand and maximize the full capacity of the facility. “We want made in America to mean made in Virginia and we are proud that this American-made textile company will expand its U.S. footprint by establishing an East Coast facility in Virginia. Specialty textile manufacturing has long been a core component of the economy in many regions across the Commonwealth, and we thank Apex Mills for keeping the HanesBrands facility in operation, retaining nearly 100 jobs and creating an additional 44 jobs for hardworking Virginians.” Governor Glenn Youngkin said in his statement welcoming the investment.

Support from Virginia Jobs Investment Program

Apex is headquartered in New York and has a plant in North Carolina. They are manufacturing textile in United States for more than 80 years. Furthermore, its latest acquisition will help in retaining and creating multiple jobs in Virginia. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Patrick County to secure the project for Virginia. Moreover, Governor Youngkin approved a $300,000 grant for Patrick County to support the project. In response, Apex Mills is eligible to receive state benefits from the Virginia Enterprise Zone Program. Moreover, the company will get funding and services to support the company’s employee training activities under Virginia Jobs Investment Program.

Significantly, the state of Virginia competed with Pennsylvania to secure this project by Apex Mills.
