Lidl has announced to create 1,000 full-time and part-time jobs across the United Kingdom. Moreover, the German discount retail store will offer these roles in their supermarket stores and warehouses.

Lidl claims to have highest staring wages

Lidl has witnessed a rapid growth in their sales during recent times. Therefore, the retail giant has decided to increase its headcount to cater the sales volume. Moreover, Lidl claims that they are the fastest-growing, highest-paying supermarket in the UK. Their spokeswomen stated that the new hires will have the highest starting pay in the industry. Previously, Lidl raised the minimum wage of its store workers and are paying the highest starting wage among the industry competitors. Warehouse staff will start on £10.90 an hour. Whereas, workers within M25 will receive a starting wage of £11.95 an hour. Moreover, the starting pay rates can increase to up to £13 per hour depending upon worker location and experience. Currently, Lidl is looking to hire customer assistants, cleaners and warehouse operatives.

“We’re incredibly proud of our amazing colleagues across the country, whose hard work and loyalty mean that we are the fastest growing supermarket, with over 1.5 million more people shopping with us than last year. As our customer base continues to grow, and as we open more new stores and warehouses, we need more people to join team Lidl. Not only will new colleagues be the highest paid in the industry as a result of our newly increased rates, they also be part of an amazing team of people that are working to help make good food accessible to all households, at a time that is so needed.” Lidl Chief HR Officer Nan Gibson said in a statement.

1,100 new stores in next three years

Moreover, Lidl has shown commitment to open 1,100 stores across the country by the end of 2025. Significantly, most of these new stores will open within the next five months. UK Lidl sales grew by 20.9% in the 12 weeks to September 4 which is their fastest growth rate since October 2014.
