Penneys Store have finally opened at Square Shopping Centre in Tallaght after a long wait. Moreover, the Taoiseach Micheál Martin inaugurated the new store through an investment of €10 million investment by the retailer. In addition, the new store has led to the creation of 300 new jobs in the area.

€10 million investment

The opening of this latest Penneys store has taken their tally to 37 outlets in Ireland. Unsurprisingly, a large number of people gathered at the inauguration of the store. Moreover, the lines were stretching outside the doors of the store. Alongside the initial investment of €10 million, Primark has committed to invest €250 million in Ireland over the next 10 years. This is the first new Penneys store in Dublin in six years. Their previously launched store opened back in December 2016 in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre. The latest store in Tallaght span over 43,500 square feet of retail space and is one of the largest fashion stores in the shopping mall. Furthermore, it has a Nails beauty salon as well.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin welcomed the investment

Penneys is a significant employer in Ireland and internationally, and its growth brings footfall back to our towns and cities in Ireland. I congratulate all at Primark on today’s opening in Tallaght and wish this beloved retailer continued success.” Taoiseach Micheál Martin said at the opening ceremony of Tallaght store.

Creation of 300 jobs

The opening of this grand and long awaited Penneys store has brough multiple employment opportunities in the area. Significantly, the store has already employed 300 new employees and may hire more people in future. “Today is a proud day for everyone at Penneys as we open our brand-new store in Tallaght and continue to expand in our home market. We are thrilled to welcome our colleagues and customers into this new store to experience the best of fashion retail. We know our customers have been waiting for Penneys at The Square for a long time and we are delighted to finally open our doors to this great community.” Chief Executive of Primark, Paul Marchant also commented on the new store opening.
