New York has launched a city jobs program to support low income New York workers. Furthermore, the city’s jobs program will help in putting their careers in the construction and industrial sectors. They program is named as “New York City Pathways to Industrial and Construction Careers.”

Mayor Adams announced the launch

New York’s administration has launched this job program through a funding of $18.6 million grant. Moreover, U.S. Economic Development Administration has sponsored this grant. This grant came in response to a winning proposal to the Good Jobs Challenge under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Significantly, the new program will help in placing 2,300 low-income workers in new jobs in the city’s construction industry. “All New Yorkers deserve to earn a living wage and share in our city’s prosperity, and that’s why I’m proud to announce the Pathways to Industrial and Construction Careers. With the support of an $18.6 million federal grant, we are taking major steps towards making sure that thousands of New Yorkers have access to jobs that they can support a family with, while giving our city’s employers access to the talent they need to thrive.” Mayor Eric Adams stated while announcing the program on last Monday.

Program will focus on workers seeking jobs in construction sector

Furthermore, the program will provide support to job seekers during all the phases of employment. These include recruitment and training, job placement, retention and advancement. In addition, the purpose of the program is to place employees on higher wages. Some of these jobs include the likes of tradesperson, construction project manager, diesel mechanic or general utility worker. Moreover, the PINCC will look to target workers aspiring for construction and industrial careers. Hence, they will be routed to relevant training which is in line with their skill set. Furthermore, the program will then assist the workers in placement through their extensive employer relationships.

Previously, the New York state had the fourth largest construction sector within the United States in 2020. However, massive job losses during the pandemic severely affected the sector’s employment.
