FedEx has confirmed that they are making a capital investment of $35 million in Montgomery County. They have planned to develop a new FedEx distribution center in Clarksville’s Industrial Park. Moreover, the establishment of the new distribution center will lead to the creation of about 250 new jobs.

$35 million investment

FedEx is expanding its distribution network in North America. Currently, they have a total of 35 million square foot of warehouse space as part of their distribution network. A new FedEx distribution center will open later this year in Clarksville’s Industrial Park. The development at the new facility is already in progress. This new distribution center is code named as Project Distro. Furthermore, the company chose Montgomery County because of its feasible location and availability of workforce in the area.

250 new jobs

FedEx has laid great emphasis on transportation, e-commerce and global delivery services. They have chosen Montgomery County due to availability of workforce. Therefore, the new distribution center in Montgomery County will employ up to 250 full-time and part-time workers. “We continue to experience significant package volume due to e-commerce growth and are optimizing the capacity of our network to meet growing demand for our services. The site was chosen because of its ease of access to major highways, proximity to customers’ distribution centers and a strong local community work force for recruiting employees.” Dave Hill, spokesperson for FedEx Ground said in his statement.

IDB Director of Economic Development Josh Ward also confirmed this announcement. However, the FedEx has not announced any formal date for the beginning of hiring process for these jobs. “That will be the final number of full-time jobs, once they are at full capacity,” Ward said, adding the distribution center will start operations sometime in 2023. The new facility will have 250,000 square feet under roof. Furthermore, it will comprise on an area of 55 development acres.
