MSC to add 135 jobs in Charleston County

MSC, The cargo shipping division of a global transportation and logistics company is planning to expand their operations in Charleston County. Moreover, the expansion plan will add 135 new jobs in the county.

$13.7 Million Investment

MSC USA, a division of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has announced an investment of $13.7 million. The announcement was made of Thursday and it will expand the total number of employees to more than 500. Subsequently, the state administration welcomed this investment and they believe the project will be beneficial for the Charleston County. “When a world-class company like MSC USA expands its footprint in South Carolina, it further proves to the world that South Carolina’s ports offer companies unparalleled global connectivity”. “We congratulate MSC USA’s continued growth in Charleston County, and we look forward to many more years of their continued success”. South Carolina’s governor Henry McMaster said this in his statement.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development

MSC is located at 700 Watermark Boulevard in Mount Pleasant. In addition, they are now adding 25,000 square feet adjacent to the existing building. Moreover, the company is relocating corporate functions from its northeastern headquarters to complement the expansion locally. The expansion is likely to complete in 2023. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development given their nod for job development credits related to the project. The council also awarded Charleston County a $1.2 million Set-Aside grant. Therefore, the grant will assist with the costs of site preparation and building construction. “Our Mount Pleasant branch, like many other MSC USA branches in the United States, is set to grow exponentially”. MSC USA President and CEO Fabio Santucci said in his statement.

The company started operations in 1970 and their headquarter is in Switzerland. Currently, MSC has 524 offices across 155 countries with over 100,000 employees worldwide. MSC USA opened in 1985 and they are serving the U.S. market for over 35 years. MSC has an integrated network of roads, rail and sea transport resources. Hence, MSC’s shipping line sails on more than 230 trade routes.
